Samuel Wilbur Condit, a.k.a. ‘Wild Goose” Bill, established his ranch, the present day site of Wilbur, in 1875. He registered his brand, known today as the “Shaded Heart,” on
27 June 1881. His cattle and horses are said to have born this brand “as far south as the junction of the Snake and Columbia Rivers.”
“Wild Goose” Bill operated as freight hauler, rancher, store, hotel and saloon owner, toll road builder, ferry and stage coach owner/operator and land developer. Buried in the town cemetery, his entrepreneurial and pioneering legacy lives on today: in the products bearing the “Shaded Heart,” and in the re-pioneering spirit of its residents committed to the best of small town living.
Only items made locally of superior craftsmanship and quality are “branded… with small town heart.”
The Rendezvous Coffee House (303 SE Main Street) now houses the Shaded Heart Ranch Headquarters, where the Artisan’s have some of their pieces on display and for sale. Be sure to stop by frequently to see these beautiful pieces of art!
